How the learning works
The game builds up the times tables the way they are easiest to remember: the easy tables first, then the rest with their help. Multiplying and dividing belong together from the start.
1The easy tables first
First 1, 2, 5 and 10, then square numbers like 3·3 and 4·4. That already covers 70 of the 100 facts. The remaining tables can be worked out from them.
2Getting to know them with dots
Each table starts with a picture of dots: 3 rows of 5 dots make 15. The same picture also shows dividing: 15 dots in groups of 5 make 3 groups.
3Counting in steps
Numbers are missing from a number row and the child fills the gaps. First one, then several, finally the whole row. That is how skip counting grows.
4Practising for the next animal
Then the problems come mixed, multiplying and dividing. A number shows how many correct answers are still needed. It gets smaller with every correct answer.
5A path instead of the answer
After a mistake the game shows a way to work it out: the row up to the missing spot, or a bridge from a known fact, such as 7·8 = 7·7 + 7. Every problem ends with a correct answer from the child.
6Adapts to the child
The game measures speed against the child, not against a stopwatch. What still has to be worked out comes back more often until it sits. About four out of five problems should be right the first time: enough success and enough challenge.
Collecting makes you want more
Every stage has its own animal and habitat. Which one it is only shows bit by bit: first a shadow, then an outline, then the animal.
With each stage the child climbs the explorer ranks. A mistake only costs a few extra problems, never a sticker. And after the last animal there is one more surprise.
